No New Food, Day Three.

Ugh. Still spent most of the day feeling as if I'd been kicked in the stomach.

Had a couple handfuls of cashews for lunch around 3:00.

Gonna go scavenge for something now. Thinking that once this week ends, I should probably put in some extra effort and perhaps itemize my food purchases for a couple days afterward.

Glad other people are still sticking with it.

No New Food, Day Two.

The Good:
Still on track. Having no appetite due to illness can do that to you, I guess. Free lunch at work due to meetings. Free sandwich made me realize that I decided to start this the day after I ran out of cheese. Bummer.

The Bad:
Maybe one day off work wasn't enough for recovery. Free sandwich left me feeling like I got punched in the gut most of the day.

The Weird:
I think in the last two days I've consumed ~500 calories. And moving some of the leftover soup to the freezer means that my freezer is now more full than when I started. Go figure.

(note: scroll down a few entries. New people are signing up to give it a shot themselves. Maybe you should too)

No New Food, Day One.

Due to illness, my consumption today was limited to some leftover soup.

Check out some of the other participants, they're proving to be way more interesting.

No New Food, Day Zero.

Alright, starting the project on Monday, April 28th. Can't purchase food until Cinco De Mayo.

This was a prep day. Sort of a chance to be able to not moderate my purchases, while still being aware of the concept. Here's the big thoughts.

1) Holy crap, I forgot to give an exception to coffee. Aside from trying to claim it as an "essential lubricant", I might have to find alternatives fast. I'm thinking a big empty jar and raiding my "Why have I been keeping this for a decade?" tea stash and seeing what I can do for some sun tea action. This is mitigated somewhat by point #2.

2) Whoops, I might have the flu. I got to perceive my brain fogging over earlier today, and I'm typing this out now only by virtue of a several hour long nap. Good thing I made a big batch of chicken noodle soup for the girl the other day (who definitely had the flu)...I've still got some as leftovers

3) I went through my pantry last night and found some things purchased about five years ago that I'd forgotten. I seem to have a surplus of canned green beans, and I don't know why.

4) Due to a mix of increasing rent, increased commute, and ridiculous fuel prices, I'll probably be moving in the next month or so. This project was not borne of the idea that I should clean out my fridge such that I have to move fewer perishables so much as an exercise in clarifying my thoughts on frugality and consumerism.

Day one tomorrow. For the record, my food purchases for today included an iced coffee, breakfast for me and the girl, and a bottled water. Grand Total (2.35/20.53/1.10): $23.98

A new challenge: No New Food

This is my freezer.

Note that it is now officially full.

As a nod to the increasing food costs, I'm going to perform a little challenge to myself to see how I can do.

I don't get to buy food for a week.

No vending machines, nothing. Shouldn't be hard, I've got leftovers aplenty.

But I want to do this because I'm clearly accumulating more than I'm consuming.

If anyone else wants to join in, take a picture of your starting food stores, share your thoughts wherever you normally would, and let me know, I'll edit this post to give you credit for joining me.

UPDATE:
Thom from the very relevantly titled Eat For A Week is going to try to go a week himself, starting date not yet certain.
Kali from the freshly-minted Somewhere in the Clouds is on board to give it a shot as well.
Adam from No Fad Diets for Beetles is in as well. Brilliant.
Princessofntn is in as well possibly with more of a photo documentary approach. Awesome. With a shiny new blog here.

Two years.

And I'm feeling much happier now.

A great evening.

I got to spend an evening with the girl, and it was good. A thing she might not have heard of. A thing that she might not have been able to get to. A thing that will become special between us. A good idea, a fun time had, a shared experience, and maybe a few bonus points for the uniqueness of it all.

I kept looking over at her. She seemed enraptured. Delighted. Ecstatic.

I just let my heart swell seeing her happiness.

A brief study in fear.

Some months ago, travel for work landed me in a foreign (to me) place.

Thinking back on it, I should make a serious showing of respect to my friend that lived there and helped guide me through it. It's bugged me notionally since, not the fear/discomfort, I am what I am, but that she went out of her way and I never properly thanked her.

So please, forgive my lateness, be aware that you're always going to kick my ass at tetris 2, and I know that I owe you a few beers.

Thank you, Monica. It was great to see you, and your awesomeness in putting up with my BS will be remembered.

A question for the wisdom of the crowds.

Ok, so I hear all this talk about the wisdom of the crowds, perhaps it's time to ask a question.

To all those that are married, were married, want to be married, wish they had married, and those that are glad they haven't/never did, I ask...

Marriage?

To those that are: When did you decide? Was it all at once, or did it just sort of make more sense as time went on?

To those that were: Same basic questions, but with the caveat that whatever ended it, do you regret the time that was? Is there something fundamental that could've been avoided in hindsight?

To those that wish: Was it a lack of finding that person, or is there a regret for holding back in the asking?

To those that are glad without: No pointed question, just curious of the reasoning.

Not probing for personal or painful details, just asking the question for my own studies...
