Not much to report, but here's a few highlights:
1) I'm surprised to find out how rarely I actually write anything by hand anymore. I seem to have not had cause for several days now, so I can't report how that's going.
2) I find that trying to stick with this has made me a lot more deliberate in a lot of actions. Reaching for my wallet takes a little more thought, and I keep questioning actions under the microscope of "is this how I'd normally do it?"
3) Contrary to what my idea of logic would tell me, you'd think the hand I normally write with would be a little more adept at using a mouse. Either I'm really out of shape, or I'm concentrating too hard, because I find it getting fatigued before long. The biggest surprise: While I can maneuver it without too much trouble, left-click vs. right-click keeps getting screwed up.
4) eating is a pain in the ass. It took me a half hour of serious effort to get through a frozen microwaveable dinner the other night. I'm sticking with sandwiches or burritos or anything that doesn't require utensils for a few more days.
5) I've had a vague feeling of unease ever since I started this. Awesome.

Project: Rewire my brain.
Ah, science. Time for another project wherein I set up a contrived situation such that I can leave myself feeling confused or miserable. So here goes, "Project: Rewire My Brain"
WHEN: 12:01AM Sunday, July 8, 2007 through 12:01AM Sunday, July 22, 2007
WHAT: Everything left is right. Everything right is left.
WAIT, WHAT?: I'm neither fully left-handed nor right-handed, but neither am I ambidextrous. Every day of my life that I can remember, even going back to my days as a lad, I've always put my keys in the same pocket, my wallet in the same pocket, written with the same hand, thrown with the other, etc. So for two weeks, reverse everything. Write with the other hand, etc. Re-arrange my pockets. Everything backwards! Woo!
WHY: I feel like I've been thinking the same stuff over and over again lately. So just to make things interesting, I'm going to distort the whole mess and see what happens. Will I think oppositely? Will I get night terrors? Maybe it's just morbid curiosity.
BUT: well, after that last project failed after a few too many absolutes, I'm leaving open a few possibilities. If I have to write something legibly or sign something, I'll have the option to use my natural hand if it means fewer hassles (like angry calls from the bank or something)
AND: unlike last time, I can write about my misfortune this iteration.
Let's get stupid!

My weekend could have been worse.
So I got back to work this morning after taking an extended weekend with the holiday, to find news that one of my cow-orkers broke his neck last weekend. Fractured the C5 vertebrae, I guess.
He's alive, and they're saying it'll likely have no permanent damage (even though it sounds like the bonehead might've driven himself to the hospital), but suddenly my one day-trip and a weekend of computing and movie watching doesn't seem so bad.

PROJECT ONE: FAILED

Alright, I'm calling it a failure. I can cite extenuating circumstances in that I had to hit the internet a few too many times at work this week researching various things, and I could sort of justify that as "Hey, silly projects aside, I still gotta pay the bills, and I don't think they'd go for 'But I swore off the internet...' as an excuse"
Granted, I did cheat a couple times, and maybe in a way, the project is a success. Even if I didn't meet my goal, I'm certainly thinking about it quite a bit more.

I'm a bad man.
I cheated. I'm on the internet.
What can I say? I got bored.
The first few days were the strangest. Prank-called at least one stranger (sorry, man. I meant well.) Realized I'd forgotten a couple things, like turning off moderation on my blog and warning people that I was going to be MIA for a bit.
Whoops.
So I'm allowing myself one hour of catching up, which means that "PROJECT ONE" now has to end at 1AM, Wednesday, July 11.
(off to go fix some of those forgotten bits...)

PROJECT ONE
One month. No internet.
No blogging.
No websites.
No email.
No instant messaging.
No this.
No that.
Starts: 12:00AM Monday, June 11th, 2007
Ends: 12:00AM Wednesday, July 11th, 2007
See you in a month.
No blogging.
No websites.

No instant messaging.

No that.
Starts: 12:00AM Monday, June 11th, 2007
Ends: 12:00AM Wednesday, July 11th, 2007
See you in a month.
Quotations that can't or shouldn't be explained.
"Oh no, it's only a special girl that would spit ice at me. While we were eating dinner. In a crowded restaurant."

Waiting...
Until that last example plays itself out. The way things have been going, I figure it'll come soon enough.
And then everything changes, again.
